England off to a winning start at Euro 2024
England got off to a winning start to Euro 2024 with a 1-0 win over Serbia in Gelsenkirchen.
Jude Bellingham scored the only goal of the game with a fine header early on.
England have never won the European Championship before, but they will be confident of going far in this tournament after a solid performance against Serbia.
Gareth Southgate's side were in control for most of the game and created a number of good chances to score. They finally broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute when Bellingham rose highest to meet a cross from Bukayo Saka.
Serbia came close to equalising in the second half, but they were denied by some good saves from Jordan Pickford.
In the end, England held on for a deserved victory. They will now face Scotland in their next group game on Friday.
